Paintings of Radnor by George Rothacker
at Willows on February 27, 2005 to benefit the Radnor Scholarship Fund

Villanova, PA – January 10, 2005 – Artist and designer George H. Rothacker of Villanova will be presenting a one-man show of his work at the Willows in Radnor Township on February 27, 2005, from 2:00 p.m to 5:00 p.m. A special Champagne Preview Reception will be hosted at 1:00 P.M. catered by Margaret Kuo’s Restaurant in Wayne.

More than 70 canvases created over a four-year period depict the homes, intersections, parks, businesses, churches and landscapes of Radnor.

“Radnor is a beautiful community with a great deal of diversity in its people, architecture and atmosphere,” said Mr. Rothacker. “I began this series in 2001 by painting my own home and those of my neighbors.” From there I reached into all corners of the township, and painted many small treasures of the community which are vulnerable to demolition due to high property values and the desire for larger homes.”

“We’re proud to be partnering with George on this project,” stated Art Lewis, head of the Scholarship Fund which will benefit from a large portion of the sales as well as admission fees ($10 for regular admission and $20 for the preview.) “So many of the places he paints we see everyday and never notice their appeal. I believe the show will help us all recognize what varied beauty we have in the township, and motivate us to help preserve it.

“A majority of the paintings are done “plein air,” continued Mr. Rothacker. “I sit on street corners, in yards, on hillsides, and along roadways for a good deal of the day to capture the scene, During my sessions, I have been plagued by thunderstorms, bees, poison ivy, and leash-free dogs. I also have been blessed by friendly, interesting passersby, and have thoroughly enjoyed learning more about the community where I have lived for 20 years.”

Mr. Rothacker has won numerous awards for his work and been recognized by the Society of Illustrators and the Philadelphia Art Directors Club. Print sales from his series of paintings of movie houses have benefited The Media Theatre, the Radnor Memorial Library, the Jimmy Stewart Museum, the County Theatre in Phoenixville, as well as many other organizations.

Serious buyers are encouraged to attend the Preview since there has been an interest in several paintings. In the event of a major snowfall, please call 610-688-6107 by 12:00 noon on Sunday ; a snow date is planned for Tuesday, March 1, from 5:00 p.m. (preview) to 9:00 p.m.
